It's Friday, it's gorgeous out, and I'm feeling completely unmotivated. So here I am reminding LJ that I am in fact still alive.
What I've been up to is another thread. Another thread with a cut tag. Another thread with a cut tag that will be very NOT SAFE FOR WORK. :)
Well, okay, I'll post this one now:

And I'm still working towards the fantasy baseball draft in a few weeks.

1. I have a fantasy baseball team, which uses avatars. I also tend to do LJ posts about baseball, which use avatars.
2. This offseason, I know pin-up models.
3. A lot of places make customized jerseys.
I get the feeling baseball posts are going to be waaaaay more fun next year.

* I think it's official. Anderson Silva is the most bored man on the planet. Not borING mind you, but simply bored.
* If anyone knows any cool spots around York or Harrisburg, PA, now would be a good time to let me know.
* Neon and fetish don't usually go together. Emphasis on "usually".
* I can't believe it's almost November already.
* Lack of gmail at work really reminds me how out of touch I feel with the non-locals on here.
* Steak is still delicious. I may never really understand vegetarians.
* I think it's safe to say the Phillies have got this one.
That is all.

Good news: you can definitely buy a portable 300-400 watt lamp, one that easily fits in the trunk. Excellent!
Bad news: They're usually callled "grow lamps", not really the cookie one wants on their government computer.
Oops.

pay per viewiness
Oct. 16th, 2008 | 12:54 pm
So this is something the wife and I are starting.
Saturday is UFC 89. We generally buy all the pay per views UFC broadcasts. This time we're opening the apartment doors and windows for anyone who wants to join us. Main Event is Michael Bisping vs. Chris Leben. So at least there will be violence.
Having said all that, this show is free on SPIKE TV at 9pm. But the next one won't be! So it's easier to get in the habit of coming over now. Or something.

So I'm NOT going to try to win it all next year. Let someone else have the glory, lest I become the Evil Empire myself. The question now is, what should I do for next year?

Just got back from the Navy Yard. Cameras ARE allowed on the grounds. This is awesome because the Yard is one of the most photogenic-yet-unphotographed parts of DC. A lot of the old retro buildings are still up, plus decorative cannons and anchors all over the place. Now I just need a retro pin-up model.

I won our fantasy baseball league again this year. It was close, and I had to use some tricky tactics to pull it off. But out of the three years of the league, I've finished 3rd, 1st, and 1st respectively. So I'm feeling like I've proven myself to the rest of the league. You know all those players you like, but can't justify drafting? Them.![]()

On being a hermit
Sep. 19th, 2008 | 12:20 pm
So I guess I've been hiding under a rock this year. The more I think about it, there's a LOT of friends I've only seen once this year in person, if at all. If I hadn't gone to Sophist's shows recently, the list would be much much larger.
Maybe I'm just too 'net-dependent socially. Maybe I'm drifting away from people. Or maybe I just need to stop hiding under a rock. Still, I wonder how it all happened.
Maybe I should have a party or something?

I'm not usually one for posting links. But this seems VERY IMPORTANT.

It's a brief description of how so many powerful banks can all close within weeks of each other. It's not the complete empirical truth. But there's definitely a point to be made.
Hint: the people who "let this happen" all work at the pleasure of the President of the United States.

* No Mr. Competitor, I will not let you install software onto one of our machines. I don't care how many subcontractors or projects we have in common.
* Yes, I know how to merge graphics in almost any form you'd like. But that doesn't mean you've given me the computer or the software for the task. So yes, I'm outsourcing to the fangirls. They photoshop as well or better than our in-house guys.
* The ship (well, technically it's a "vessel") we're working on is being paid for by the Army, Navy, and Marine Corps. Who is going to man and pilot the ship? Is it:
A: The Navy. It's a ship.
B: The Army. It's not a ship... it's a "vessel"
C: The Marines. Wait, they know how to steer?
D: None of the above.
Yeah.... D.
* I'm being bid on a new contract. If we get it, great. If we don't, I'm soooo out of here.

Are you Trans-Siberian Experienced??
Sep. 12th, 2008 | 10:15 am
Call to people with more culture than myself:
An engineer in my office (who accidentally happens to be a good person as well), wants to take her 12 year old to the Trans-Siberian Orchestra.
Keep in mind:
* The kid is twelve and not into music.
* BOTH parents are engineers, specifically navy contractors
* He's 12 now, he'll be 16 by the next presidential election. This could be the best time to convert him to the left side of the force before he's handing out Huckabee/Palin 2012 bumper stickers to registered voters.
Anyone have enough knowledge of TSO to help with the sales pitch to the kid?

Interesting meme. Here's the answers, you have to ask for the questions. Trick is, you can't have the questions until you agree to post your answers.
Hm. I haven't, but since you'll never see someone else's email receiving the questions, I suppose they could have changed along the way. Ah well.

I realize the game is rather old hat by now, but it's been about a year since we played. There's been new television shows and new entertainers out there. Who would be interested participating again? Bare minimum, I could use some shallow escapism away from McCain/Palin every once in a while.
EDIT: I don't think I'm going to seed the brackets this year, because I don't want to have to count all the nominations. We'll pull the names out of a hat at a cast party or something.
Opinions?

It's been a month since my last detailed post? Yowza. What I don't like about forgetting to post is there's a lot of things that could be entire topics to themselves, that now I'm going to have to gloss over with a few bullet points. Grr, gotta remember to post while things are still topical.
( Family )
( England )
( Photography )
Misc:
* Lots of politics, but that's another post.
* Work has been disrupted in a big way because of the hurricanes.
* I need a ufc icon.
So that's most of August in a quick nutshell.

Too much rope?

A lot of posts last night about Palin's speech. Not going to reply to them all, but these links seemed interesting. Both were posted this morning, and seem to deflate things just a bit.
Fact Check
No command experience
Contradictions on the family front
And that's just Yahoo. The speech may be over, but reality keeps going.
